I have long harboured an ambition to go to the Hill of Tara. We went in the teeth of the children’s opposition. The Rough Guide described it as resembling nothing so much as a golf course. That is true. “Hill” is generous. It bucketed rain and we all got soaked to the skin.
Notwithstanding all of this, there is something a little bit magical about the place.
As Samuel Johnson would say, worth seeing but not worth going to see.

Very atmospheric. Did you avail of the audiovisual show and guided tour of the site?

When did you go? It was roasting in Dublin this weekend?

N, as we have a family OPW heritage card for which I must get full value, the answer to your question is yes.
Ken, went a couple of weeks ago when the weather was more typical. Am slightly behind myself on my posting regime.

I know an Austrian living in Dublin, who said her love of Ireland came when she saw the view from Tara over the plains. In Austria, the view is always interrupted by mountains. Also, the sky there tends to be monochrome, compared with our ever-changing clouds.

It takes all kinds, I suppose, but I still think that the mountains beat the plains.
