May 17 was a beautiful day and I noticed (on the way home from a Communion, of course) that there were quite a few families in the small park near our house. Since, it was “Take your children to the park and leave them there” day, I decided when we got home to send the three children off to the park together alone for the first time. They took an unhealthy picnic and off they went for an hour and a half.
They had a great time. Nobody was run over. Nobody was even sunburnt. They reported back that the boys played soccer with some other children; they all rolled down the hill; and herself lay on the picnic mat and read her book. It was delightfully peaceful at home. Do not mock, if your children spend all day on the green and only come in at tea time. I know that you knew this all along.

were any of the other kids officially taking part, I wonder?

I absolutely adore this idea. (It’s the first day of our summer vacation. Dare I pack up the kids and drop them at the park?!)

Town Mouse, I would guess not, but you never know, I suppose.
Do, do, do! So that you don’t go out of your mind with worry (am sure they will be fine, it is parents who suffer), I suggest you hand over your mobile phone to MC and tell her to call you on the landline, if she needs to. And let her take some photos so as you can see that they had fun when they got back.

Oh fantastic! Well done. I’ll do it too. Why does this perfectly normal idea seem so thoroughly shocking?
We like to go to parks with woods in them, and I’ll give the Redster my watch and tell her to be back by a certain time (so far it’s not been more than 20/30 minutes). The other mothers, who think that all woods harbour at least one paedophile, look extremely dubious. The Redster loves it and has never been late.

And, of course, the more people do it, the safer it will be. I hope your girl climbs trees in the woods!
