Recently, I ran into a friend who lives abroad and who is a faithful reader of my blog. My own brother when I asked him whether he read it said, “I only look at it for the pictures, really”. [Does this make it the opposite to Playboy?]
I found myself wondering are there more people reading my blog who I know in real life or more people who I wouldn’t recognise if I passed them in the street.
Would you like to identify yourself as known or unknown in the comments? Is this an unashamed plea for comments after a month of blogging? Could be, I suppose.
Are we glad the whole NaBloPoMo is over for another year? All together now, “Oh yes, we are!” Lord, is it pantomime season already?

Unknown to you in real life, but a faithful reader since 20six

faithful reader (and I’ve been known to beg for comments too) and have met you in real life – does that count?
cha0tic says
Let’s see if it asks me to log-in to word press.
cha0tic says
WOW! No. One of the reasons I’ve stopped commenting on some blogs as I can’t be arsed to retrieve my password etc. Sorry ‘Disgruntled’.
I am still reading, but only when I see a post on twitter as RSS became too much of a chore (I probably signed up to too many feeds)
WOL says
Unknown. I live in Texas so it is doubtful you would meet me on the street.
CathyHW says
Unknown reader for quite awhile. I’m in Washington, DC. I’m so lazy about clicking out of my reader that I am terrible at commenting.

Unknown to you in real life. Originally started reading your blog when linked to by a mutual friend/ acquaintance. There was that other weird overlap where I recognised from your photos and description that you were at a wedding as good friends of the groom, where the bride was someone I was quite friendly with. The usual Irish two degrees of separation (I think to have six degrees of separation between two Irish people one of them would have to have been living in a beehive stone hut on the Skelligs for 30 years.)
You have a nicely wry way of describing the vicissitudes of life so I enjoy reading. I actually quite like NaBloPoMo as it means when I check my RSS feeds I am guaranteed at least one blog will have a new post. I read via RSS but often click through to see what comments there are.

Unknown to you, but I love your blog. I found it through Fluid Pudding.

Let’s see… unknown to you in real life but after all these years possible that we would recognize each other if we passed on the street – or at lease recognize each other’s children.
Viviane says
First, congratulations for completing NaBloPoMo ! It deserves a little praise from your readers. I found your blog through Mrs. Beth Fish’s, and liked your thoughts about Belgium, which we French like to consider as a little France. I already told you that we often have the same taste in books, and I like your humour, and your pictures. I will miss you in December !

known in real life. Read all blogs except the ones on books. Visit nearly every day to check for updates.

Loyal reader. Hand up. I read every word.

Unknown – but a reader for so long I can’t remember how I found your blog. I really enjoy your writing so I love November!

Well done on completing nablopomo. Known to you. Regular reader. Live abroad, sometimes. Think I may even have made an occasional guest appearance. Keep up the good work.
Ken says
Regular reader and unknown to you. Not sure how I stumbled across your blog. Probably Dot found it.
Lauren says
Loyal reader for quite a while (I was trying to work out how expat life worked – I’m in Germany and not Belgium, but most of the issues were similar, and I kept reading afterwards.) No idea how I found the blog, and we don’t know each other. Oh, and I don’t know the other Lauren who posted here first either! (Should I come up with an alternative name?)
LizC says
I’m a regular reader but unknown. Can’t remember how I got here, but it’s been a few years…
As someone with parents who moved over the Irish Sea some years ago, your blog helps me understand some of their eccentricities!
Andrea says
Unknown but loyal reader for several years.
Kara says
1. Regular reader but unknown.
2. No! Not happy that November is over, I’ve loved your daily posts!
3. The guilt trip was very effective, I feel very bad for not commenting more in November. But that doesn’t mean that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy every post.
Dorothy says
Fairly regular reader from Cape Town. I’ve been reading for a couple of years now. Thanks, I can always find a smile here.
Blythe says
Unknown but still reading!
Lesley says
I would definitely recognize your children if I saw them in the street, but not you I don’t think.
Lizzie says
An unknown, longtime reader.
Beth says
Unknown to you librarian in Pennsylvania. I’ve been reading your blog for years, and I always enjoy your book reviews (:
Brendan says
Found you via your sister-in-laws blog. You realise you’ll have to delete the whole thing in a while or your daughter will murder you.
Katherine says
Unknown but have been reading your blog for years. I am in Florida, USA.

Thank you all you virtuous people for commenting (and on a weekend as well) – and very interesting to know how you found me too. And to know that you are out there at all is quite thrilling. I read everything on RSS myself and know the extra pain required to click through and comment so really appreciate the effort. I will face into December blogging with fresh enthusiasm.

Unknown to you in real life although we appear to share a common professional background and I also go to Cork to visit family although nothing like as regularly as you. I have been reading you since 20six days and applaud your success it getting through NaBloPoMo – certainly put my poor efforts to shame!
Sarah says
Unknown, but devoted reader in London – I’ve enjoyed your NaBloPoMo efforts very much!
Dot says
We’ve never met but we’re not far apart and I would possibly recognise your children, though probably not you as you rarely post photographs of yourself. (And of course when I did think I might have encountered the twins at the Ark I hadn’t.) I can’t remember how I first found your blog but I’ve been reading with enjoyment for several years.
belgianwaffle says
Hello, further faithful readers. Thank you for reading. It is very nice to know that you are out there.
Diana says
Unknown reader, since I don’t know when (!) I think I have read most of your archives, so I am not sure when I really tuned in, but I found you through Fluid Pudding. I live in America, but am married to an Irishman and we come back (to outside Dublin) every year. Just made our Christmas pudding last weekend, and tiny mince pies are next on the list. I suppose I could run into you at some point, but only if you had your kids with you!
belgianwaffle says
Hi Diane, thank you for reading and for commenting! Weather here fine but freezing – something for you to look forward to.
sonyamc says
Faithful reader and known to you tho now far away
belgianwaffle says
Well, thank you for reading; almost more noble if you do know me, really, as you get it all twice….
