I came home from work one day to find that the Princess had written her will and got the boys to draw up wills also. She had given them a fictional €100 to dispense. I said to Daniel, “Will you read me your will?” He started out cheerily enough. “I leave [herself] €15. I leave Michael half of the money and the parents all the rest. Signed Daniel.” And then his voice broke as he read, “I wish that all of my relatives never forget me.” He’d drawn a tombstone with RIP on the back.
Honestly, she’s like Wednesday Addams.

8 (ish) going on 80. At least she didn’t try and get them to leave their fictional all to herself.

I used to play the wills game when I was a child, too.

I remember being very obsessed with death aged 7/8 and the idea that I would inevitably die. I thought it was just me but it turns out this is a recognised stage for pretty much any 8 year old. Quite distressing at the time though. I remember I got quite hung up on reading any book about characters who were immortal in any way or came back from the dead. At some point I suppose we must just all forget about it and get on with our lives – it’s funny how the mind works

O, are you sure?
Really, Dot – where does this come from?
It is odd, D, I think she is more over it than her brothers who are still v. traumatised by the prospect…
