Our cat is called Hodge. She is called after the cat my family had when I was a child. That cat in turn was called after Samuel Johnson’s cat.
This afternoon, the children had some friends to visit. Over dinner, they mentioned their cat. “What’s it called?” we asked. “Bakunin” said the five year old. “My father is an anarchist,” explained the eight year old. Retired, I’d say.
Mah boys’ neighbour has a lanky, piebald teenage cat called Nietzsche – he spends most of his time looking either thoroughly baffled or very worried. Clearly takes “To live is to suffer, to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering” far too seriously for his age ….
The fellow who was minister of our church when I was in middle school. They had a siamese cat named Yum-Yum (After the female protagonist in the G&S “The Mikado”) and a black lab named Wagner after the composer. The dog had a problem with flatulence.
Ah, yes, Nietzsche, Yum-Yum and Wagner. My readership does not disappoint.
meanwhile, my neighbour’s cat is called ‘compo’ which is not even after the character in Last of the Summer Wine, but is apparently a kind of cement.
I think compo is what Dublin people get from the corpo when they fall down a hole in the pavement. How’s America?
We had dogs. A Russ & a Sam at home. When I left home Zappa – Named after Frank & then Rizla – named after the cigarette papers. I’ll leave you to guess why I thought that was such a good name for a dog 😉
I’m guessing, I’m guessing..
