Today Mr. Waffle and I both took the day off work and went walking in the Wicklow Hills leaving the children to the care of school and childminder.
It was very pretty:
But rather cold:
And boggy:
We spent some time recovering by the fire here.

Gosh, looking forward to when we can do that again, not that I’m wild about the bog-hopping. I recommend waterproof trousers. But the wetter and more miserable you get, the better the recovering by the fire part is:-)

Beautiful countryside but it looked mighty cold even before I saw the “after bog” photo. Have a happy St Patrick’s Day – I wore a bright green top to work celebrate my 1/4 Irishness.

Jealous, oh so jealous. Not that I could actually go hill walking (or even walking) in my present condition even if we had someone to abandon kids with 😉

Oh dear, I should put my Scout leader head on and admonish you severely for going walking in denim trousers.
But you are an adult, and therefore capable of evaluating and accepting the risks and consequences of your clothing choices. Right?

Dot, Sarah, I was testing out my new waterproof shoes…they are still in the hall stuffed with newspaper…
Thank you Michelle – they say that it’s like NZ – is it true.
C, any day now, I guess…good luck – 4 is a lot! On the plus side, your pension worries are OVER.

I do a good bit of hillwalking (well, when dodgy back not playing up) and generally wear gaiters over some kind of quick-dry trousers. The actual waterproof overtrousers can get a bit warm. Wicklow is particularly boggy even in comparison with mountains elsewhere in Ireland (IIRC there’s a layer of shale over the granite batholith) but in compensation the slopes are generally not knife edge sharp. Inclined to be convex though which is irritating when a series of false tops reveal themselves as you plod upwards.
