I see from my archives that I began this blog on the 10 December 2003 – six full years ago. When I started, I was an unemployed new mother living in another country. I began with the admirable intention of keeping my family up to date with their relatives abroad. Yet now that they see me with far greater regularity, I am still hard at it. It’s a mystery. I always say in these anniversary post that it was the brilliance of Angela at Fluid Pudding which inspired me to begin. Not quite sure what inspires me to continue other than my role as keeper of the family archive which, you can tell, I take very seriously. I see another belgianwaffle is doing a much better job of working out why he bothers.
In a shameless attempt to get a reaction from my audience, can I tell you that I am hoping for some happy anniversaries in the comments section. Actually, you probably are why I bother. No pressure now.

Happy anniversary! I’ve been lurking over here in California since… 2004, probably? Something like that. When I got to college I was confronted with a sudden lack of anyone younger than 17 or older than 25, so I’m very grateful for the families on the Interwebs. Thank you!

I started my blog for the same reasons, and sometimes I still wonder the same thing, but it comes down to the blogging community and people like you. Thanks for keeping it up.

Happy Anniversary!
As you can see, we do appreciate your blog. I started reading because of your book recommendations (bookwork that I am) and began to enjoy the entries on the kids since they resonate so much with the happy chaos of our little family!
Wish I could say I have become a more soncistent blogger myself, which I haven’t. I envy your discipline!

Still lurking – can we have a bit more on the weather please? Otherwise perfect…

I went back and had a look at your archive and realised I must have done the same thing before when I originally started reading your blog, as early on you recommended “What I Loved” by Siri Hustvedt.
For ages I had this on a list of books to try out and last year I finally bought it. I had entirely forgotten how it had got on to the list in the first place. It’s a wonderful book and I am obliged to you.
P.S. thank god your comment system does not delete the comment if I make an error.

This means that you are a six-year-old blogger. Almost l’age de raison.

Happy Anniversary, Waffle. I’ve been reading your blog for years, too, even if I don’t comment often.

Happy birthday! I am a big fan and it’s also been nice to be able to check in with family matters while I’m off in Godless London.

I love you all (blows kisses and waves hands in the air). Thank you very much for reading. Material is likely to continue being provided indefinitely…

Happy Anniversary. By happy, though not very interesting, coincidence you share your anniversary with my BF’s birthday. I started reading your blog to keep up with Bxls after I had left. Now I am back here and am keeping up with Dublin – weird!

I am six and 3 months, but haven’t been round these parts that long…
Happy Birthday!

Just catching up on blogs after a few busy days, so here’s a belated Happy Anniversary! I feel like I’ve been reading you forever, but now I realize I’ve only been around for 2/3 of your tenure. . .I remember because I know I was pregnant with my almost-four-year-old when I found you. . .somehow. No idea how. Anyway, whatever the reasons, I’m glad you’re still plugging away!
belgianwaffle says
C, Sarah, Kara, all very kind. Will keep plugging…

Happy anniversary, from one who was inspired by you to start a blog, but who cannot match your prolificacy.

Yes, BroLo, must try harder..
