I wonder what I will do with all of the
Princess’s little girl clothes. “Give
them away” says Mr. Waffle brutally.
“But what if we have another little girl?” “If you show even the slightest interest in
ever becoming pregnant again, I am going to have a vasectomy”. I think Mr. Waffle may feel that our family
is complete.

Heather, it’s just the hormones, it will pass.
JD, hmm, not sure, my mother has just thrown out all my old college notes to make room for her and my father’s “wine cellar” under my bed. Not sure that they have room in their house for Madam’s clothes.

Before the twins were born, everyone said
“you’ll need help”. So we have purchased
help. One morning and two afternoons a
week, people come in to provide (quite expensive) help. Except with Mr. Waffle on paternity leave (2
weeks paid – is this more than Americans get for maternity leave?) and the
twins being quite good babies and both of us being obsessively tidy and herself
being off at the creche, there isnÂ’t really a tremendous lot for these people
to do. And because we chose with care –
nice industrious people – they don’t like just sitting around. The upshot of this is that I’m there trapped
under a feeding baby and I’m inventing tasks for people to do (“Gosh, you’ve
thrown out the faded flowers and hung out the clothes AND done the ironing too,
could you um, wash the kitchen floor? Oh
youÂ’ve already done that..). ItÂ’s a bit
like having a new and over eager trainee at work who keeps appearing at your
desk having completed in half an hour the task that you hoped would keep
him/her going for the day. Doubtless,
it will all be different when Mr. Waffle returns to the fray next week and I am home
alone with the boys tearing my hair out (to clarify, I will be tearing my hair
out, the boys have not yet developed the requisite level of hand eye
co-ordination to do this for me).

Ah well – make the most of it while you can.

Loc, Minks, you are very virtuous not to hate me. Minks, a sweetie is above and beyond the call of duty. Ta.
Kristin, more pics, no problem, am touched by your interest. American maternity leave really is dreadful, deep sympathy.
BHM, on the contrary, the salt mines are looking very appealing.

There is an annual cartoon exhibition in our
local town hall. I saw the posters up
yesterday and they remind me that last year, we went to investigate with the
Princess. I asked the man at the
entrance whether the exhibition was suitable for small children. I meant was it more aimed at adults or were
there things a little girl might be interested in. They take their comics very
seriously in Belgium.
ItÂ’s an art form here and hence it was quite likely that the exhibition
might be for grown-ups rather than children.
The nice man on the desk said “Absolutely, there is no
pornography”.

I wouldn’t go as far as to say they’re pornographic.
…
No, I might edit that remark a little. Here goes:
Yes, lots of them are sheer Filth. But artful Filth.
(That’s better).

When I was in the hospital, everyone kept
asking me whether Daniel and Michael were real twins. And I would say “no, they’re fraternal”. And the person would then, always, say “no,
what I mean is was it a natural pregnancy?”. Everyone here is obsessed by IVF.
Since we have come home the dishwasher, the
washing machine, the microwave and the dryer have been going constantly. Mr.
Waffle points out that all twins in the
western world must grow up with the hum of labour saving devices in the
background. Last night, I was saying to him how handy it is that
we are getting up at 4 in the morning anyway so that we can put the
wash we put on at midnight into the tumble drier and have dry baby
clothes for the morning. He looked at me a bit oddly and then
said drily “Yes, that certainly is a silver lining”. Well, it IS.

And for a bonus point, who is this in the, perhaps a little too large, bouncy chair?

2 out of 3 LM, and yes, they do look like their Daddy, particularly Daniel.
Norah, they look different to us – I know, they look the same to other people but we’re their parents. Herself, however, can’t tell them apart at all.
Ta Minks.

Why do I read it, if I don’t like it?
Thank you Mr. James for giving me a whole new worry.
I am an anti-maven (or whatever the opposite of a maven is). I couldn’t tell you the price of something I bought 2 minutes ago. Consequently I am always skint.
Am envious of your skrimping prowess.
Very funny, FFE.
Norah, FT, I’m always skint too. But I do have 18 litres of Evian in the kitchen.
