Isn’t it odd the way that Twitter has revealed the personalities behind companies. OK, maybe not so many companies but who knew that Betfair Poker had quite so much personality? If I ever get into poker, Bet Fair will be my dealer of choice.
Samples below:
Whenever I go out with a group of friends, I always mentally identify one of them as a human shield in case of a shoot-out.

Who in God’s name brings a penny farthing bicycle onto the Tube during rush hour? Thankfully nobody right now, but the threat is real.

There’s been a spate of funny tweets from police forces in the UK too (of course, now I can’t think of a single example…) – it makes sense because they get widely re-tweeted and gives the organisation a nice human face but it’s hard to imagine somebody actually approving such a policy. In a lot of organisations (though probably not Betfair) I expect it’s just that they give the twitter feed to the youngest employee (or intern, probably).

On the one hand, I like this, but on the other, it sort of disturbs me how human qualities like friendliness, quirkiness and humour are being used as commodities here. Sorry for such a po-faced reaction…

Actually, wasn’t that what happened in HMV…
Oh Dot, I suppose you are right, but I was enjoying it (insert soft wailing sound here).
